Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Gymnasium Windsbach

Windsbach, Germany

Our school is a school of secondary education and is attended by around 800 students including about 100 members of a well-known boys' choir, called Windsbacher Knabenchor. The building is situated in the rural district of the city of Ansbach. Nuremberg, the biggest city in our surrounding, is about 40km away and can be reached easily by train, bus or car. Our school is also situated near a recreational area which is becoming more and more attractive to tourists from other parts of Germany as well as from other European countries. Since there are three big lakes all connected to each other, people like to spend their summer holidays here. The beautiful landscape we are surrounded by is ideal for camping, swimming and biking.

After a lot of maintenance work our school was reopened in February 2011 with modern technical devices for both students and teachers, including whiteboards, cameras, PC-laboratories and 15 PCs at the students' disposal in our new library. By working via PC our students will become better acquainted with PC programmes they will need in their future careers and all this modern equipment will prove most convenient and necessary for working together on European projects.

A new canteen for students and teachers was built in 2011, which is also suitable to hold meetings or assemblies. In 2014 new outdoor sport facilities were completed, such as a new hard court, a pitch and two beach volleyball courts to provide even better possibilities for all kinds of sport activities. The school board, the headmaster, his representatives and the school's staff are all very open-minded and enthusiastic about offering our students an experience beyond the curriculum that includes all kinds of activities, such as exchange programs with partner schools, common projects such as musicals and theatre, music performances, all sorts of competitions in science, maths and reading, many sport activities and so on.

Pupils who decide to attend the JSGB Gymnasium can choose what kind of emphasis they want for their education. The ones who are a part of the internationally popular boys' choir put their emphasis on music, the other ones can choose between language and science as their main emphasis. As foreign languages students can learn English, Latin, French and Spanish.
